Join us for Wise Weekends for the Mountains

You are invited to join us for the sixth annual Wise Weekend for the Mountains in Virginia’s awe-inspiring Appalachian Mountains!

Wise Weekend for the Mountains!

Hosted by the Southern Appalachian Mountain Stewards and the Wise Energy for Virginia Coalition, we will gather October 4th through the 6th for a weekend of mountains, community, fun, and solidarity! We will draw inspiration from the gorgeous fall foliage and the experiences of coalfield activists who are working to save their mountains and way of life from destruction by way of mountaintop removal coal mining.  Click here to register today!

Where: Andover Community Center - Wise County, VA
Directions to Event Here:

When: October 4th-6th

Why: To learn about mountaintop removal coal mining and to experience the beauty and culture of Southwest Virginia.

The weekend will include tours of mountaintop removal sites, community and expert panels, service projects, sustainable living workshops, activist trainings, films, local food, live music, and dancing!

Cost: There is a sliding scale of $20-$75 depending on what you can afford – a limited number of scholarships are available.

Accommodations: choose between discount rates on lodging in nearby hotels and camping options

If you can come early, consider joining us for a special event to kickoff the weekend called New Power for the Old Dominion, a clean energy presentation, panel discussion and social event at Mountain Empire Community College on Thursday Oct 3rd. (See the sidebar for more info —>).

Join us in the mountains this October to celebrate our successes, enjoy southwest Virginia, and learn how to continue the fight to keep Virginia communities healthy!
